Mother's Day at Embrey Mill

Mother. Momma. Mommy. Mom.

She’s the one always by your side, the one who’s helped you grow and learn, and the one we celebrate every second Sunday in May on Mother’s Day.

Did you know that the idea of Mother’s Day started forming right after the Civil War? It’s true. What began as a movement to reunite families that had been divided by the war, eventually evolved into the holiday we now know when it was made official in 1914.

Mother’s Day is made extra special when living at Embrey Mill.

So, to make all our Embrey Mill moms feel the love, we pulled together a list of Mother’s Day festivities in the area that you and Mom can enjoy together.

Family Pinch Pot Tea Cups Workshop

On Saturday, May 11, at 10am, Corgi Clay Art Center is having a 1.5-hour Family Pinch Pot Tea Cups Workshop. In this class, you’ll be instructed in how to use the pinch pot method to build your very own teacups. This class is good for ages 6 and up, so every generation can make something meaningful for the previous one.

For younger kids, this is the traditional way to make mom a hand-made object d’art she’ll treasure forever. And for adults with adult parents, this is your time to take that classic gift to the next level! Tuition includes clay, communal tools, and two firings. Just make sure to register soon because space is limited!

Brunch in Fredericksburg

Another classic Mother’s Day gift is brunch with your loved ones. With so many fantastic restaurants near Embrey Mill, it might be hard to choose. Here are a few in Fredericksburg that are known for their delicious brunches.

Park Lane Tavern combines a European tavern atmosphere, European-inspired dishes, and all-American drinks. From crab benedict to Park Lane’s signature thick-cut hardwood smoked bacon to spiked mimosas, you and mom will definitely be treated well, eat well, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Foode + Mercantile are sister restaurants in Historic Downtown Fredericksburg. At these two fine establishments, local ingredients come together to make taste sensations. Steak tacos, New Orleans-style beignets, and sangria are some of the delights you can expect for brunch. You both will love the food and companionship as you celebrate her special day.

Downtown Fredericksburg Flower Crawl

On Saturday, May 11, take Mom to Downtown Fredericksburg and have a day of shopping and strolling—and flowers! Enjoy a leisurely lunch and then start the Downtown Fredericksburg Flower Crawl, which runs from 3:00–6:00pm.

Buy your ticket online and then check-in at the Visitor Center by 5:30pm. You’ll get a list of participating shops, which you can then explore with Mom. At each stop, you’ll get a flower. And once you’ve finished the crawl, you’ll have a whole bouquet (and any other presents you’ve purchased along the way). Time together, a bouquet of flowers, and possible other gifts: It’s a perfect way to spend the evening before Mother’s Day celebrating!

Swifty Karaoke at Grounds Bistro & Café

Once brunch is done, a tea cup has been made, and a bouquet of beautiful flowers has been assembled, there’s one more thing to do to celebrate Mom: Swifty Karaoke at Grounds Bistro & Café! Swifties are, of course, fans of Taylor Swift, and this karaoke “concert” will be a fun way to share all the joy found in her music.

Maybe you’ll choose to “Never Grow Up” or remember what it was like to party when you were “22.” But we know one thing: When you’re singing the hits and enjoying drinks and food from Grounds Bistro & Café, it’s going to be a perfect end to “The Best Day.”

Celebrate Mother’s Day at Embrey Mill

As you can see, all the festivities mentioned above take place on the day before Mother’s Day. That’s to make sure you have actual Mother’s Day free to shower Mom with love or be showered yourself!

And don’t forget how amazing it is if Mom lives right up the road at Cascades at Embrey Mill, our 55+ active adult section. You’ll get to share everything wonderful about our community, while still always maintaining privacy. Because Embrey Mill really is the one place you can have it all and feel the joy every day.

Happy Mother’s Day!
